{FREE} Let's Talk Turkeys! Craftivity

We've been gearing up for Turkey Day the last couple of days with a couple of craftivities.  Our first order of business was to make these sprawled out turkeys.  I think they turned out absolutely adorable but MERCY ME if you have a student that has a little difficulty following directions and you want to keep all of your hair, you may want to forego the turkey making process with that child.  Totally kidding (sort of)!

We read some informational texts about turkeys and made a tree map.  I forgot to snap a pic of the tree map but we included things that turkeys are, can do, and have.  The students were able to supply words to complete each section based on what they had learned about turkeys from the texts we read.  We then used the tree map to fill in the blanks on our Turkey Talk writing page.  You can get this FREE packet here or by clicking on the pic below.

We also made the little indian children that you can see in the display.  I tied these to math and we learned about pattern cores.  They glued their pattern core to their little headbands on their indians.  Then they extended the pattern on a sentence strip.  And NO the pattern strips are not beside the indian children that they go with (with the exception of the redheaded indian child).  We totally ran out of room on the wall and ended up sticking them up wherever there was room.  Can you believe they only get to stay up for another week and then it'll be time to deck the halls??? AHHH!  Where has the year gone?

Easy as ABC {Freebie}

Well y'all I still have to set the alarm for 4 more days and then it's sweet summertime for me. Only 1 more full day with my little sweet 5K students. My 4K students' last day was this past Wednesday so I've only got 12 students left.  I've been feeling a wee bit guilty as I've been reading blogs with all these fabulous, academic, planned out last days.  That's so not what's been going on in my little classroom.  Sorry to disappoint!  Since I only have less than half my class left, I've been letting them work on center activities since Thursday ALL day.  And guess what!  That's what we're doing tomorrow too.  Shhhhh!  We've had so many crazy activities messing up our schedule that it's just been easier to do this.  Plus my little sweeties are having a ball.  I have to tell ya that they are really working hard though and still learning.  Just give them a wrinkled piece of chart paper that you can't use and they'll do all kinds of things.  One of my sweeties wrote so many math facts from memory.  And if I'm being honest, I didn't know he knew all of those that he knew.  Forget fluently adding sums to 5.  He was adding up to 20 from memory.  I was proud as a peacock!  I wish I had taken some pics of all they've been doing while they've been working all day.  Of course, I'm also the Momma who forgot her camera so she couldn't take pictures of her own children at Award's Day and then forgot to use her iphone.  Shame on me!

Anyways, I've been trying to get some things ready for next year.  I figure the more I get done now, the less I have to do over the summer.  One thing that I do at the beginning of the year to teach letters and sounds is use an alphabet during shared reading EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.  We say the letter name, the sound it makes, and the picture ( Ex. A, /a/, apple) It works wonders I tell ya.  I've been using these below from Teacher Resource Center.  I've got a large poster one and individual student cards as well.

They're kinda pricy at $16.95 for 10 and I didn't like the way they laminated so they've gotten a little ragged.  I decided to make my own for next year and just print them on cardstock and laminate.  Plus we have a poster maker at school so I can make it into a poster too!

You can get yours for free by clicking on the picture above.  It'll take you to my TPT store and all you have to do it download it.  If you like it, leave me some feedback love!  Hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday tomorrow!
